Stories that move through sound, movement, image, and memory
India’s artistic traditions include forms that are performed, spoken, painted, played, sculpted, sung, and transmitted through embodied practice.
We are interested in the people, contexts, and knowledge systems that allow these traditions to continue. This includes practitioners, teachers, performers, families, local institutions, audiences, and younger generations.
Our documentation may explore:
- Performance practices and forms
- Oral histories and repertoire
- Instruments, costumes, and materials
- Training and transmission
- Community and ceremonial contexts
- Contemporary adaptation
- Challenges facing practitioners
The Foundation seeks to promote visibility that strengthens understanding rather than separating a performance from the community and context that give it meaning.
